Ohio State is one of nine universities to receive a 2009 grant from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation (http://www.beckman-foundation.com/scholars.html). Undergraduate Beckman Scholars will receive $16,000 while conducting independent research with a faculty mentor in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Science, plus funds for supplies and travel. The scholarship involves full-time research during two summers and part-time research during the intervening academic year. OSU Beckman Scholars will be able to take advantage of far-reaching professional opportunities as part of a tightly connected community of enthusiastic peers and mentors. They will present their research results at the OSU Denman Undergraduate Research Forum and the Beckman Scholars Research Forum in Irvine, CA. This program will be administered by the Undergraduate Research Office in 150 Page Hall.
The application deadline is Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Eligibility – This is a highly competitive program for exceptional students, with three awards available in 2010. Students must be US citizens or permanent residents who will graduate no sooner than Autumn Quarter 2011, and who are able to participate for two summers and the intervening academic year, beginning in June 2010. Second-year students and those majoring in biochemistry, chemistry, biomedical science, or biology are preferred. First-year students and those majoring in related areas are also eligible to apply. Beckman Scholars are expected to complete an Honors Thesis and pursue a Ph.D. and/or M.D. after graduation.
