Why do research away from Ohio State?
As a major research institution and one of the largest universities in the nation, Ohio State has many excellent opportunities for its undergraduate researchers. Many students, however, expand their search for research opportunities to include programs in other cities, states, and even countries. These programs are often housed at prestigious academic and governmental institutions, and often have generous funding packages.
The US federal government allocates research funds through its consituent departments and institutions. A portion of these funds goes to support the research training of undergraduate students, and many of the best research opportunities are sponsored by federal funds. The National Science Foundation
The NSF maintains an extensive, searchable database of funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates. Students may search by state and/or subject area. Students from any university are eligible to apply for these REU programs. Here are a few selected REUs you may want to consider:

These funds are generally recurring: current deadlines are listed in red, while past deadlines that are listed in black.
